From 12 May to 19 May 2019 the 3DK spent an amazing week in Ireland together with their form teacher Mag. Maria Zwinger and Mag. Brigitte Peck.
In the first five days we stayed in the lovely city Galway on the west coast of the Republic of Ireland. While people were freezing back home in Austria, we were enjoying the sea and the wonderful weather in the breaks between lessons and during the excursions.
After the first lessons with our Irish teachers Daniel, Kyle and Api we made a city tour of Galway on Monday afternoon. We visited the old harbour, heard stories from the past in the centre and enjoyed the sunshine. After the tour Lisa Fuhrmann performed two songs in Eyre Square, fascinating listeners from Ireland, Austria and other countries.
Tuesday was a full working day. After the morning at school, we made a very interesting company visit. We went to the Galway Greyhound Stadium where we learned a lot about greyhound races, the keeping of the dogs, betting and the importance of the industry as an employer. In the evening we were in the leisure centre, where we made a laser quest and enjoyed a game of bowling.
During a full day excursion on Wednesday we visited Dunguaire Castle (at low tide in the morning and again at high tide in the evening), a Dolmen (Stone Age grave), stunning beaches, lovely villages and above all the amazing breathtaking Cliffs of Moher.
On Thursday we had very enjoyable English lessons again with our teachers and in the afternoon we made a treasure hunt in Salthill, the area of Galway where our school and our host families were located.
The destination of our last two days in Ireland was the capital city Dublin. We walked along the river Liffey past the famous Ha'penny Bridge, visited Christchurch Cathedral and St. Patrick's Cathedral and made a guided tour of the renowned Trinity College, where we learnt a lot about the university and we saw the Book of Kells and the amazing College Library. On Friday evening we went to the Greyhound Stadium to watch some races and bet on the dogs, which was a lot of fun! On Saturday afternoon some of us visited the Guinness Brewery, while others strolled through the famous entertainment area Temple Bar or explored the city on their own.
On Sunday morning we started our journey back home, leaving Ireland with improved English language skills and a lot of lovely memories.
