< Exkursion – Alles Apfel und St. Martins Therme & Lodge
Early in the morning of 11 April we were taken to Vienna Airport for flight OS 451 to London Heathrow. We, students of 3DK and 3EK, together with our teachers Prof. Szigeti and Prof. Rumpeltes were looking forward to staying in Cambridge with our host families. Many of us saw that as a big challenge. Most of the families were quite okay and we would have liked to communicate more with them.
Our daily routine was lessons in the morning and tasks and sightseeing in the afternoon. The basic skills of writing, speaking, listening and reading were practiced during the whole stay in a funny and motivating way. It was a relaxed atmosphere and Cambridge was inviting. Except from a little bit of rain we enjoyed nice and sunny weather. We had a walking tour through Cambridge, we did a treasure hunt and of course, we loved self-punting on the river Cam.
The weekend saw us in London. We had a bus tour first and then Justin, the social programme manager of Kaplan International Colleges took us on a walking tour to Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey and Big Ben, Downing Street 10 and of course, Piccadilly Circus and Trafalgar Square. We had a good time at Madame Tussauds and were among the famous people in wax. On Sunday we paid tribute to Shakespeare by visiting his birthplace Stratford-upon-Avon. In the afternoon we went to Warwick Castle. We were mostly impressed by its huge towers and the flight of the eagles show. Another landmark we saw was Ely Cathedral, where a nice old lady gave us a lot of information about this outstanding church.
Besides, we went bowling at the Leisure Centre and we saw the box hit “The Hunger Games” at the cinema. And of course, all of us got time for strolling through Cambridge and for shopping so our friends and families would get some lovely souvenirs. By the way, we saw Hilton Double Tree hotel, where we loved good English cream tea. We should not forget to mention our visit to Kings’ College and its famous chapel and the visits to the Museum of Zoology and the Museum of the History of Science. To put it in a nutshell: We had a time we will never forget - and a certificate to prove we tried to improve our English and to work on our future careers.
